Steering Nearly 60% Collections Improvement for a Health System

A Pennsylvania-based health system was struggling to support growth of a complex insurance collections program, undermined by labor-intensive and inefficient A/R processes. With the understanding that planned growth would further decentralize operations, this client sought out HGS for our proven A/R expertise and strategic, global resources.
Throughout this client’s growth trajectory—from 5 to 25 hospitals—HGS has been there every step of the way.

How We Do It

The client’s goal was to improve collections, reduce A/R and minimize the cost to collect. The client struggled to collect from a large pool of smaller workers’ compensation payers with very little results. HGS incorporated the state’s statutory appeal process into the client’s workflow, resulting in increased collections and a reduction in A/R aging by nearly 60 percent.

Business Result

With HGS’s expertise, the client’s A/R aging decreased from approximately 45% of the A/R aged >90 days to approximately 20% of the A/R aged >90 days.

Today this HGS team works as an extension of the client’s in-house team, always on stand-by to assist the client in any way required—with fast ramp of agile, talented resources to support staffing at any scale, at any location. The relationship has evolved from client-vendor to that of trusted partners.
